4 July 2013
Humanities Bridgeford St, University of Manchester

UK Data Service Census Support is organising a free, one-day workshop on 4 July 2013 to provide an introduction to the aggregate data outputs from the 2011 UK Census.

UK censuses provide an unparalleled resource of high quality information about a wide range of current and historical demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population across the UK.

As well as the introduction to the aggregate data outputs, the workshop will include hands-on sessions giving an opportunity to explore the InFuse interface. InFuse is designed to simplify access to and understanding of these data.

The workshop will be of interest to existing and potential users of census outputs.

Sessions will cover:

Understanding the 2011 Census

  • what information has been collected
  • when will data be available

Using InFuse for topic-based information searches

  • what is Infuse
  • how do topic based searches differ from traditional table-based searches

Hands-on exercises

  • using area-based data in your analyses
  • producing analyses and maps

No previous experience of using census data will be assumed.

This workshop will be held between 11.00 and 16.00 BST on 4 July 2013. It is free but as places are limited booking is essential.
